Backcountry Chronicles: Florida Everglades Homesteading with Brett Ivy

Hey there, friend!

This week on the Grounded in the Middle Podcast, I am joined with Brett Ivy from Piney Oaks Homestead. We dive deep into the realities of pursuing a simpler life and take a closer look at challenges of self-discovery and the journey to a more sustainable way of living.

And Brett is honest in sharing, “it’s not always easy.”

Brett and her family set out in 2018 to leave suburban South Florida. She shared, “we had our sights on a completely off-grid homestead 8,000 feet up in the mountains, but fate had other plans, abruptly shutting down our dreams a month before our planned departure.”

After several months of searching for their forever homestead, the family’s roots were planted in Florida’s Nature Coast, an hour from Gainesville. Since moving, Brett has been leaning into home cooking, homesteading, and sharing what she is up to on social media as well as her website- Piney Oaks Homestead.

Tune in to this conversation with Brett that is sure to make you laugh and be encouraging.
