Taking the 5 Leaps: Experiencing God’s Faithfulness as You Respond to His Call

Discovering Your God-Ordained Path with Rachel G. Scott

Many people yearn for greater fulfillment in life but struggle to move beyond their current circumstances to embrace their God-ordained calling. Without faith and direction, fear and uncertainty can prevent us from surrendering our desires and fully trusting God. Bible teacher and author Rachel G. Scott addresses this common struggle in her new book, Taking the 5 Leaps: Experiencing God’s Faithfulness as You Respond to His Call (Moody Publishers).

Rachel G. Scott, a seasoned Bible teacher, podcaster, and mentor, introduces readers to five distinct types of leaps that reflect our obedience and trust in Godโ€™s calling. Through her book, Rachel aims to inspire readers to embrace risk, build confidence, and find peace as they relinquish their own desires to pursue Godโ€™s vision.

Embracing the Leaps

Taking the 5 Leaps provides a roadmap for readers to navigate the challenging yet rewarding journey of responding to Godโ€™s call. Rachel uses biblical illustrations, scriptures for meditation, and personal stories to highlight God’s transformative power. Each leap represents a unique step of faith:

  1. The Leaperโ€™s Setup: Every leap comes with its own set of challenges, designed to build our spiritual strength. Even when we feel unqualified, God equips us for the leap He calls us to take. As Romans 8:28 reminds us, all things work together for good for those who love God.
  2. The Fishermanโ€™s Leap (Peter): This leap involves leaving what is familiar, such as a job or career, to follow Godโ€™s direction. Itโ€™s about whom we serve, not what we do. Trusting God to lead us into the unfamiliar allows us to experience His ability to do more with our willingness than with our worthiness (Matthew 14:23โ€“27).
  3. The Shepherdโ€™s Leap (Abraham): This leap calls for a physical relocation. While the details may be unclear, faith assures us that God provides a preordained path and predetermined provision. We must let go of familiar people and places, trusting that our new journey is just as significant to God (Genesis 12:1โ€“7).
  4. The Builderโ€™s Leap (Nehemiah): This leap requires temporarily leaving a job to fulfill Godโ€™s work or care for a loved one, with the possibility of returning later. Despite the commitments and adjustments, seeking Godโ€™s guidance on the seasonโ€™s conclusion is crucial (Nehemiah 5:8โ€“12).
  5. The Tentmakerโ€™s Leap (Paul): Here, our job helps fund our calling. This leap involves co-laboring with God and others to advance His work. We can pursue our spiritual assignment while maintaining our current job and staying open to future divine directions (John 10:27).
  6. The Trailblazerโ€™s Leap (Jesus): Jesus exemplifies this leap by completing the other four leaps while balancing His earthly role with His heavenly purpose. With a surrendered life and willing heart, we can confidently choose obedience, stepping boldly into Godโ€™s plans, discipling and serving others along the way (John 6:38).

Preparing for Your Leap

Throughout Taking the 5 Leaps, Rachel emphasizes that while our leaps may change with different life seasons, God provides the knowledge and requirements for each one. She also differentiates between a calling and a vision, setting a prayer plan, preparing for spiritual warfare, embracing hurdles, and praying for perseverance.

Rachel encourages us to view Godโ€™s calling not as an intimidating responsibility but as an exciting opportunity to strategize with our Creator. By becoming silent and listening, we can hear Godโ€™s vision and gain confidence through our God-partnered leaps. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, retiree, or business executive, remember that God wants to propel you into His divine purpose through your leaps of obedience. Challenges will arise, but they will be accompanied by beautiful, historic, and glorious moments with God.
